Dear Salem Family,

As you probably recall, last year Pastor Sheila Bouie-Sledge became an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church.  As expected, Bishop Farr is now calling upon Pastor Sheila to share her gifts in a new ministry role starting July 1, 2018.  Pastor Sheila has been called by Bishop Farr to accept the appointment as Senior Pastor of North Park United Methodist Church here in St. Louis.

Pastor Sheila has been a part of the Salem community for 12 years.  In 2006, Pastor Sheila and her husband, Cliff, joined the church, but more than that, they hit the ground running!  Pastor Sheila and Cliff both became involved in the ministries of Salem soon after joining.  Pastor Sheila participated in United Methodist Women, Missions Team, Greeters and Ushers Team, and several other groups as a church member.  Cliff has been serving the church through leading the Men's Group “Iron Sharpens Iron” on Wednesday nights, teaching Sunday school, flipping pancakes for Breakfast with Bunny, serving on Finance Team, and just saying yes when he was asked to help in most any way.

Then, in 2010, Pastor Sheila came to me to share her call to ministry.  She was responding to the call of the Holy Spirit to become a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that had been a central part of her life since childhood.  Shortly after that meeting, Pastor Sheila started classes at Eden Seminary, and her journey to ordination in the United Methodist Church began.  As a seminary student, Pastor Sheila served Salem as a pastoral intern.  Then in 2013, she was appointed as an associate pastor while she finished her requirements to become a fully commissioned elder.  Finally, last June at Annual Conference, Salem rejoiced with Pastor Sheila as she celebrated the blessings of that achievement by becoming an ordained elder. Salem has been blessed with Pastor Sheila’s leadership and her service both as a lay member of the church and as an ordained elder.  Pastor Sheila has been blessed to be a part of Salem’s ministry and outreach to the St Louis community.

This new appointment is a great opportunity for Pastor Sheila and Cliff as they begin a new chapter in their journey. We will miss them both, but we know that God has amazing things in store for their ministry in the city! I know you will want to send them a note of encouragement and gratitude for their years of service here at Salem.

Pastor Sheila’s last Sunday at Salem will be Sunday, June 3rd. A reception of celebration and sending forth will take place at noon after the worship services that day in the Multipurpose Room.

The Salem Leadership Board will be working on what's next for Salem. We will be communicating this in future emails. Please keep us in prayer during this time of transition.
